YOU’VE MADE THE DECISION TO PLACE YOUR BABY FOR ADOPTION
Here’s what you need to know
- At Life Choices of Memphis we want you, a prospective mom, who is looking for help to make an adoption plan for your baby, to feel supported and guided in what is one of the most difficult decisions of your life. Adoption Choices of Memphis is an outreach of the ministry of Life Choices of Memphis. Your counselor is available to walk alongside you 24-7. You can know that you will have the same counselor from first contact through the birth and placement of your baby. This support includes the time at the hospital and during the completion of the legal process. Counseling is available to you from the beginning to make your plan, and for as long as you may need it – even post adoption placement.
- Adoption Choices of Memphis does arrange a termination procedure for the birth father. His surrender or termination of his parental rights are required. In Tennessee, a birthfather may choose to sign his documents pre-birth.
- You choose the adoptive family for your baby and have the opportunity to meet them pre-birth. There can be varying levels of openness depending on the desires of the birth family and adoptive family.
- These families have received background checks, both FBI and Local. This includes sexual abuse registry and criminal record checks.
- A minimum requirement for the adoptive family is to communicate with you through letters and pictures of your child every other month for the first year and an annual update thereafter until age 18.
- In some circumstances, your baby will be placed directly into the adoptive home from the hospital. If needed, Life Choices provides interim care for your baby (your baby will not go home with the birth parent). After this interim time, your baby will be placed with the adoptive family. The placement will be monitored for six months after placement to ensure a smooth adjustment for the family and baby.
